There’s a chill in the air, what about your hair?
We are heading into duvet weather down-under (that’s doona to you Aussie’s). The sun is rising later and the water temp is dropping lower for my morning surf. Time to get out my steamer! The leaves on the trees outside our Glebe salon are turning orange and there are more coats and scarfs on people wandering past our new Bondi store.
I have noticed many of my clients wanting to change their hair for winter. It’s a great opportunity to go a bit darker and look a bit sleeker or perhaps get a dramatic new cut. If you are looking for a change here’s a few ideas for the coming season:
Bangs or as we say in England/English Fringes are back baby!
Yes the fringe is back with a vengence. A little more high maintenance, as regular trims are a must to keep it looking good,  at Stevie English hair we give you 2 free Fringe trims between haircuts! This look is grown up and dramatic, particularly when teamed with glossy colour the darker hair does shine more and perhaps a Lob (a longish bob) as seen on Rose Byrne. I love clear glosses to add extra shine.

We have a bit of a Glam/punk asthetic going on at Stevie English Hair and the ponytail is a great fit, and of course we love Kate Winslett . For you lovelies with longer locks a high ponytail works great with a bulky warm scarf around you neck to frame your face.  And it’s easy to do and suits everyone. A bit of Original Queenie to keep your fly-aways in check, if you have fine hair, or some Frizzy Logic for curly-heads to add some gloss, and you are out the door!

Colour me up
Winter is a great time to go a bit deeper and dramatic or stand out with a bright Dip-dye. Even light haired lasses like Gwyneth, can pull off a Dip-Dye/Balaige  and keep it looking fresh. I prefer the brighter looks #TeamEnglish

Off with the pixies
Sometimes a change of season begs for a new cut, and the pixie is as hot as it gets, as the chill sets in. It’s a brave step but the result can be life changing.  English lovelies Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan and Sienna Millar are rockin’ this look can i hear #TeamEnglish I watched Jimmy at the Bondi store chop 2 girls hair off in pixie fashion.

Treat it well good (The secret to hair)
If you love summer as much as I do and spend every spare second at the beach or in the pool, your crowning glory might be feeling and looking a little parched. Now is the time to invest in some deep protein and  moisture treatments and get your locks back into tip-top condition. I recommend Seven Day Miracle for moisture they can re-energise any curl and The Power base for the Big blondes from O&M or come into the salon, relax with a cuppa or a wine and enjoy a “To the Manor Born” style super moisturising treatments. I can do anything with hair as long as the quality is there. Treat your hair.

You may have noticed a new talent show started this week on Channel 9, The Voice . It has a few stars on it. There’s Seal, who up until recently was Mr Heidi Klum. There’s Country Music star Keith Urban who is married to your Nic. Good Charlotte front-man Joel Madden, famously keeping house with Nicole Ritchie and their two adorable kids and i have to say my fave have on the show, and Delta Goodrem, multi-platinum chart-topper singer-songwriter pop sensation and she was on neighbours! I don’t think you could fit any more stars in that line-up if you tried.

We have also seen some awesome and inspirational singing talent, and it’s only the first week! But for me the biggest star is Delta Goodrem’s mane of waist length curled locks. They are feminine and Bo-ho yet current and polished. For anyone lusting after long luscious tresses I imagine it would have been torture tuning into The Voice this week.

If you have long hair, does it sing like Delta’s? Longer hair takes a little more care, but the results can make you a star!

Here’s my top 3 suggestions to get your mane in tip-top condition:

1. Start with a masque. The Power Base  from O&M, used twice a week repairs and restores and smells oh-so-good. Its a must for blondes. A protein treatment such as this will keep your hair shiny and easy to style.
2. Trim it up. Just a centimetre off the ends will tidy it up and keep you looking polished.
3. To get great tousled hair like Delta you need a serious light weight foundation product like Atonic from O&M now you can use loads of this product! Its brilliant. Not heavy and perfect for Almost any style. Finish off with O&M Original Queenie  to hold style

We are closing over the Christmas public holidays, but we’ll be back to chop and colour from Wednesday 28th through to New Years Eve. We close again New years day  until January 4th 2012 ( sounds so Sci fi) Wishing all our lovely clients and friends a wonderful holiday season.

Here it is at last! The amazing shots that were taken backstage at #hairexpo when we were prepping for our “England Calling” Gen Next catwalk extravaganza.The show has been mentioned here in a previous post , and these photos were the talented models and dancers who rocked on stage for us. We had some of our favorite photographers shoot this collection: Chang&Cox Photography , and once again they have produced some incredible images. Byron and Hsin worked tirelessly for the entire day amongst utter chaos backstage, and the shots are a testament to their ability and professionalism. It was quite hard getting the models to the photographers whilst prepping for the show, and the whole process had to run on a pretty tight schedule, but we managed to get it done and the photos speak for themselves.The Hair Expo show was inspired by English Icons, and we had shot a collection with another photographer  another team fave the Amazing Nicole McCluskey .  This original collection was the inspiration for the “England Calling” show.

In the collection seen here, we wanted the English style and flair to come through but still have a different direction and add more fun and movement. It was loads of fun to produce, and I think that is visible in the final images. I often think by the time the pictures have made it to print that you don’t want to see them again, but this has not been the case with these two collections. We al love them so much and could look at them forever! #TeamEnglish

It’s great when your work gets published, but even better when you get a mention on the front cover! We have 2 collections going into this awesome new issue of HairBiz mag: 1 shot at Hair Expo (whilst prepping for our hugely popular  Gen Next show),  and the other by Joel Phillips. Joel’s story will also have an interview with this talented superstar who got a Highly Commended at Hair Expo.  Both collections were shot by oor incredibly clever collaborators CNCPhotography . We will post them both this week, so watch this space.
