Summer is fast approaching, and the social schedule is pretty close to being packed. This is party season people, and we are here to help, with a brand new social media competition:Every Friday at 5pm, we have set aside an appointment with one of our talented stylists for a fabulous blowdry. This blowdry is up for grabs EVERY week for the winner of our new competition: Get Blown By Stevie English. It's pretty easy to enter: just send out a tweet or a Facebook comment on our business page saying why you want the blowdry. You must add the hashtag #BlownByStevie so we can gather up all the entries, and the winner will be announced each Monday. The only condition is: the appointment time is set in stone so you can't change the time or day. You can enter for your mum, your girlfriend, anybody really, but they must be available Friday 5pm. Sound good? Nothing gets you ready for a great weekend like great hair, and we are here to help. Get the entries in before Sunday 4pm, and we look forward to seeing our gorgeous winners every Friday afternoon!
Betty's Back In Glebe
Now im the boss, at Stevie English Hair and i get congratulated by people even when i had nothing to do with there hair,I get emails and phone calls telling me how wonderful i am and there hair has never been better.I mention that i did not do there hair and the answer back is "yes but you hired your lovely staff" Genius why didnt i have a shop before. I'm going to copy and paste straight from Quelle blog, now miss Quelle is a very talented young makeup artist in thec salon, she loves evewrything fashion and hair. Great for Stevie English Hair.
"If there's one era I love for feminine chic, it's the late 40's early 50's. So you can imagine my excitement upon viewing the Dior Spring/Summer 2011. Revamping the pin-up girl look, models were sent down the wharf themed runway with signature red pouts teamed with electric hues on the eye. And the hair? Timeless Marcel waves worn with a fringe that Betty Page herself could envy. It seems like blondes and brunettes will both be on trend this Summer, so whatever your preference ladies, your stylist is sure to keep you fashionable. One thing's for certain though, I need to get myself one of those adorable sailor hats!" from Quelles blog
Now you see how clever iam for just hireing her!
Hairdressing Salon Training In Glebe At Its Best
To have the best salon in Glebe, voted by the city of Sydney two years running is amazing, but we love our hair skills to do all the talking. But how do we stay sharp? We hire one of the best in business to come in and train our staff in our upstairs Academy. Tracey Hughes who owns and established mieka hairdressing is Melbourne. Tracey is one of the great educators in Australia, she is one of the Artistic directors for redkin and spends her life traveling around Australia and the globe. Tracey has just come back from NY fashion week. Its great to inspire our team with 1 on 1 training and Tracey's approach to hair is enthusiastic. What with her fashion talk from NY, catwalk styles, future predictions of trending hair styles and colours. Hair coming out of Stevie English will be current and fun. Thanks Tracey.

Getting Seriously pampered in Glebe
We are very priviliged to work with great people, especially the lovely team from Realize beauty.
So two lucky winners will come up or down to Sydney and get the Stevie English treatment, then they will have an image consultation by Cosmina, and be taken shopping with $500 to spend on a guided shopping tour of Sydney. Amanda Foxon-Hill, who is the big brain behind Realize Beauty will do a cosmetic kitchen workshop. The winners will then get to take part in their very own photo shoot. How Awesome!
Friends With Benefits
Here at Stevie English, we love two things above all others: our clients firstly, and (a distant second) COFFEE! So to combine out two favourite things, we have decided to introduce The Stevie English Rewards Club. It's our way of rewarding our lovely loyal clients, and also offering something to their friends who are referred to the salon. In summary:* Join the Rewards Club at a cost of $10 (including 5 bonus points), get a nifty Reward keytag and two Refer tags * Every time you have a service or purchase product, you earn rewards points. 20 points = $20 gift tag! * Give your Refer tags to friends, and they get a discount on their first visit, and you collect more bonus points.
And to add to the excitement, we had some special Stevie English Hair KeepCups made up, and for an extra $15 you can purchase one and get FREE COFFEE ANYTIME! So not only will you have great hair, you can cruise into the salon whenever you fancy and grab a coffee in your very stylish re-usable cup. KeepCups are great to have in the car or in your bag so you can do away with single-use takeaway cups for good. Any cafe will make your coffee in them, and probably love you for it.
So to re-cap, join the Rewards Club, get points and redeem them for services, and have free coffee for all of eternity. Sounds good to us!
Finalist For BEST salon in Sydney AGAIN!
We have been business for almost three years now, and have just received our third finalist in a row for the city of Sydney business awards. Last year was amazing winning this category, and to get finalist again is great. I am so happy with our team, and this nomination is prof of how great they! Its a big thank you to all our amazing clients who voted for us.
Hair Biz, Stevie English And A Geezer.
It has been so cool to watch our shop grow from 2 employees to 14, and to have this great vibe whilst working, but the cream on top is getting industry recognition. We are so lucky to work with and educate for top product companies like Bio-Ionic, who give us our great straightening products Kera-Smooth and ReTex as well as the amazing OnePass irons and dryer. O&M is the best colour company on the planet and I get to talk all the time about ammonia free hair colour and its joys ,and Simplesalon, which is just the best and simplest salon software on the market. Everything in the salon is a team effort #TeamEnglish, and all the staff work really hard on looking after every client, as well as education as well as looking after me. They put up with the crazy schemes and silly jackets! ;) ps thanks to Hairbiz
NANOMAX Botox For Hair "Future of Haircare"
Here at Stevie English Hair we not only try to bring you up to date fashions and trends, we try to bring you the cutting edge technology in hair. Nanomax is a new treatment that fills Nano-particles into the hair , thus improving the condition. It uses a machine and brush to push a fine mist into the hair- the" future of haircare" is here in Glebe, Sydney. If you imagine a grain of sand and drilled a tiny hole through the middle you could get 2,000,000 of the nanomolecules in. Filling up small holes through everyday life and stress caused from everything from brushing, surfing and colouring your hair. We recommend a course of three to five treatments. This can bring back really trashed hair back from the brink. Ask your Stevie English Stylist for some info.
Australian Social Media Superhero's and hair?
Here is the extract out of a blog post this week were I is featured not for hair but for what I do tapping on away on my computer all the time. See it is work!
You’re probably surprised to see a hairdresser on the list – hairdressing is rarely associated with social media. However, hairdressing is a business, too, so why shouldn’t it be promoted in the same way as any other business venture? Just because their main line of work is not solely online, it does not mean that the man on the street doesn’t know how to harness the power of the Internet to their advantage.
The brand name Stevie English is derived from Steve’s English roots – he was born in Somerset – his real name is Steve Corthine. He has been hairdressing for over 15 years in a career that has seen him work as far a field as the US, Asia and London before setting up show here in Australia. His work has appeared in Marie Claire and Oyster magazines, and on various fashion shows and shoots all over Australia. He uses social media as a way of promoting his business through the Stevie English Hair website, blog, Facebook account and Twitter. It’s a wonder he has any time to fix fancy hairstyles with all that typing!
Well its true i do i do tweet and use facebook a lot, but here is the prof its not a waste of time. :)
Har Expo 2010
We are all still recovering from the biggest weekend of the year- Hair Expo! This year, Stevie English Hair directed all the stage shows for O&M- a grand total of 21 shows! Verity was Artistic Director for every show! Meaning she was there from open til close every day, working backstage with the fabulous stylist Bola, helping and prompting the O&M team to make all the looks current and as a collection,as well as staring onstage for the Stevie English shows. Kirsty and Jade both did their THING onstage too, to say they rocked it would be an understatement. The senior girls were supported by Elly and our apprentices Naomi, Raquel, Jake, Stephen and Ruby who all assisted backstage during the shows. MEGA hard work! But awesome fun. We are all sleeping this weekend. Here is a few sneak peak of the pics, wait for the professional
Stevie himself was quite the man about town at Expo, working for O&M, where he talked about colour on stage, while the clever girls did awesome editorial styles, wait for pics! ProHairstylist where he interviewed, tweeted (like thats different from normal life) and covered the shows and seminars , Simplesalon where he helped the guys talk about the awesome product showing how to use it on ipad! And was also asked to talk for Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) about making salons greener, and the environmental policies for the AHC which he is really proud to be a part of.
Superstar Apprentices at Hair Expo 2010
This past long weekend, Hair Expo was held in Sydney. Hair Expo is the biggest hairdressing event in the Southern Hemisphere, so to say it is a big deal is a bit of an understatement. Four of our apprentices: Raquel, Stephen, Jake and Naomi, competed in the Apprentice Cutting Competition onstage. ONSTAGE. This means that they planned their haircuts and had been practising for about 6 weeks, and on the day they arrived at 8.30am for the 10am start of the competition. This year there were 25 competitors from salon all over Australia, and the whole of the Stevie English team were in the audience to cheer on our future superstars!
Needless to say they all did us very proud. The haircuts were spectacular, the styling perfect and our youngest team members were absolutely brilliant onstage. Nerves, scissors, blowdryers and a very big day for the Stevie English apprentices. Well done guys!
Hair and Sharks
Hairy sharks don't normally go, I've never seen one, nor do I want to but...
Stevie English is proud to support Dead Sharks ain’t Art, an arts event and auction raising funds to stop all forms of shark slaughter.
As an environmentally friendly salon, we are concerned by the fact that threatened and endangered sharks are killed for their fins off the coast of Australia in huge numbers. Already 90% of the world’s sharks have been wiped out.
To show our support, we have donated some hair cut and blow dry appointments for the live and silent auction. Other major prizes include specially commissioned artworks and a weekend for two scuba diving.
If you would like to join us on Tuesday please RVSP below, entry is free and drinks and nibbles will be provided. All money raised will go towards the NCC’s work for the greater protection of sharks and their habitat.??
When: 6.30pm – 9.30pm, Tuesday 11 May, 2010
Where: Mori Gallery, 168 Day Street, Sydney?

It's that time again- when Glebe Point Road turns into a party. Sunday the 15th is Glebe Street Fair! The salon will be open as usual, but for our lovely clients please leave a little earlier to find a park at the back. You won't be able to drive down most of Glebe Point Road, so take Bridge Road and turn into any back street behind the salon. There will be a lot of people around.
This weekend is also our Anniversary, we will be Two on Tuesday, which is an amazing achievement and what with winning the Business Awards and Georgie winning at Hair Expo this year has been very good!
